Hi! I’m Monica, a fantasy author, illustrator and comic artist by night!

I love history, myths, folklore and all things fantasy. I also love animals, especially modern dinosaurs, nature, tea and spicy food! I live with my hubby and a flock of lovebirds.

I started creating my fantasy universe when I was a child and expanded it with multiple stories and novels illustrated by me. But it was difficult for me to share them far away from my homeland, so I decided to start making comics and translate them.

My style is very European manga, detailed and complex; I’ve read a lot of manga and BD since I was very little, and I also grew up with anime of the 90’s and JRPG, all spiced up with the illustrated myth books and their painters and illustrators. MoonSlayer is totally traditionally inked from the very first pages with a dip pen and brush markers.

MoonSlayer started as a bet among writers. I wasn’t able to make it a one-shot, so I think I lost? I started the first storyboard while I was travelling on the bus to work, and after it launched, I finally moved it to its own website. That was in 2011.

My goal is to create a cohesive fantasy world that all of you can read and enjoy!

Why Otabushi?

I’ve been making webcomics for more than 20 years, and most of the time, I’ve been alone on this path. Various collectives came and went, publishers (some of the top ones) with offers that vanished in thin air. The comic industry, at least for me, had been harsh.

I would like to share my stories with the world, to be seen. Otabushi is a passionate, humble project and gave me a space to share my work 😊.
