Hi there!
I am Miss Wunder, though many people refer to me as just “miss”. It is quite funny, because the first thing I usually say about me is that I am half-artist, half-teacher. I love both worlds and I try to make my best effort in everything, from giving class to creating my webcomic and other pieces of art! (though it is stressing sometimes, I’m not going to deny it)
How did I start? Well, evethough I can’t tell you exactly when I started drawing, I know for sure that the first thing I drew (other than stickmen) was Japanese style! I remember how much I loved One Piece, Rozen Maiden and Fairy Tail, so I started sketching characters and moments I loved from those animes.
How did my manga story come to life? Thing is, 5 years ago, I suffered a terrible lost that made me stop drawing for a while, I couldn’t even hold a pen! Some time after, I started sketching my comic as therapy, since I wanted to reflect how I felt and how I handled all that through characters that were not me, but at the same time were related to my personal experience. It was meant to be a short story at the beginning, but later I realized I could talk about other struggles through my side characters, and the story grew itself to a longer format. Still, the idea remained the same: to show people they are not alone, and to show how scars heal but stay with us, serving as valuable reminders of all we’ve been through, becoming stronger each time.
Why Otabushi?
As I said before, it has been my long-life dream to publish my own manga book and share a meaningful story with people. The problem was mostly the time I had to draw, plus the fact that I was aware of how difficult it was to be chosen by the big publishers, so by that time I had almost given up on the idea of bringing my manga to physical format. Thank god I didn’t! One day, that opportunity presented itself after I talked with one of my artist friends about Otabushi. Answering this question gives me the perfect opportunity to thank her publicly for encouraging me to send that first portfolio with my idea, so thanks Merry! (go read “Maiden scripts” y’all!) I couldn’t believe it when Otabushi accepted my project, but that’s the best thing about them, giving a chance to manga stories created by indie mangakas and illustrators. So, piece of advice, if you have something in mind but don’t know how to shape it, don’t give up just yet, because your moment will come for sure!
Finally, there’s only one thing left to say: Thank you for choosing me, Otabushi!
